Alpharetta has scheduled to host Town Hall meeting for Tuesday evening where residents can learn more about the proposed transportation sales tax on the Nov. 8 ballot.

Mayor David Belle, City Council members and staff be on hand to discuss the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax starting at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. The five-year, 0.75-cent sales tax will be for unincorporated Fulton County and 13 Fulton cities other than Atlanta.

If voters approve the sales tax, Alpharetta expects to receive $62.7 million. The biggest chunk of that money, $32.6 million, would go toward congestion relief and roadway projects, followed by $25.5 million for operational improvements. Other funds would go toward safety, pedestrian, bike, landscaping and other projects.

Projects include bicycle, pedestrian and operational improvements for Kimball Bridge Road and Academy Street/Webb Bridge Road, $19 million; capacity improvements for Old Milton and Windward parkways and Haynes Bridge Road, $26.5 million; and intersection improvements for Bethany Road at Mid-Broadwell and Mayfield roads, $2.5 million.
