A former Alpharetta real estate agent pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to making false claims about his income when he filed for bankruptcy five years ago, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Robert Negrelli, 65, filed for bankruptcy in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia in 2005. At the time he was a licensed real estate broker and owed Negrelli Realty, a real estate company in Alpharetta that specialized in the sale of high-end homes and horse farms in the area, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
According to the court documents, Negrelli said he made $81,000 from his company in the two years prior to filing for bankruptcy.
Negrelli also did not list all of the creditors, including the ones with unsecured nonpriority claims, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
In court, it was revealed that Negrelli made “significantly more income” than what he stated, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
“Mr. Negrelli’s false statements undermined the integrity of the bankruptcy proceedings and, if successful, would have cheated his creditors out of the money that he owed,” U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said.
Negrelli is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. He faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
