Construction is expected to start in October on a six-month project to expand the Alpharetta Public Safety building and reconfigure the E911 emergency dispatch center.

The City Council recently approved a nearly $3.9 million contract with Winter Construction for the project, which also entails replacing the building’s heating and air conditioning systems. Piper, O’Brien and Herr is the city’s architect.

To expedite the project and allow both the Public Safety expansion and E911 work to take place simultaneously, the Public Safety records division will move into the roll-call space, staff said in a report to the council.

To ensure the E911 center remains up and running at all times, that part of the project will be done in phases, with E911 work stations set up in a nearby space to take the place of those that will be renovated. Also, a staging area will be established outside for materials deliveries.
