All recreation areas managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin “cashless” operations on Jan. 1, and only credit and debit cards will be accepted as payment, the management of Allatoona Lake announced.
The change "will enhance campground operations, provide quicker processing of funds, and improve security and safety of gate attendants and volunteers," the Mobile District of the Army Corps announced on its Allatoona Lake Facebook page.
Cash “honor vaults” at corps-managed day use areas have been replaced by automated fee machines. The devices also will accept payments for corps annual passes, generating a receipt so the buyer can pick up the pass at the Operations Project Management Office or other recreation areas that sell them.
Allatoona Lake, a man-make lake in Cherokee and Bartow counties, has 270 miles of shoreline, 589 campsites and 188 picnic sites.
