The AJC Peachtree Road Race
Monday, July 4, 2016
Start times: 6:43 a.m., wheelchair race; 7:18, women’s elite; 7:30 a.m., main.
Chance of delay: Slim.
Chance of postponement: Slim. The race has been run in rainy weather before.
Here’s a brief look at weather factors for the 60,000-runner event, which begins in Buckhead near Lenox Square and ends at Piedmont Park.
High temperature: 93 degrees.
Low temperature: 75 degrees. The temperature at race time likely will be closer to this figure and runners can expect warm to hot and humid conditions heading into the race. Over the past 20 years, the starting temperature for the race has climbed near 80 degrees only once.
It will be humid and warm with 7 a.m. temperatures running near 75 degrees and climbing to 79 degrees by 9 a.m. and into the 80s by 11 a.m.
“We are expecting a light wind from the southwest between 5 to 10 mph with a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Katie Walls said Sunday.
“The primary concern for the race will be the heat and humidity and thus the extra strain the body will have trying to sweat and cool down.”
Sunday afternoon brings a 20 percent chance of isolated storms and the evening weather will be generally clear. The overnight low is 75 degrees.
