Two high-level administrators of the DeKalb County School District are out as part of a reshuffling by interim Superintendent Michael Thurmond.

Thurmond, on the job three months, said he removed Kendra D. March as deputy superintendent of school leadership and operational support. There was “no problem with her specifically,” he said, adding “we obviously need to address academic achievement” and “I just felt we needed to move in a new direction.” Alice Thompson, executive director of leadership, will fill the role until Thurmond finds a permanent replacement, which he said he’ll do by July, after a national search.

Thurmond also filled one of five area superintendent positions left open when Darius Adamson resigned, Thurmond said, to take a job elsewhere. Thurmond tapped Trenton Arnold, executive director for assessment and accountability, to take Adamson’s place, but said all five area superintendents will shift to new regions and oversee new schools. “Every principal will have a new direct report. We shuffled them around so we’re starting fresh,” Thurmond said.
