The Gateway Marietta Community Improvement District will soon embark upon the second phase of its project to improve the aesthetics surrounding Franklin Gateway.

The CID will begin landscaping improvements along South Marietta Parkway and Delk Road from Interstate 75 to where both roads intersect with Franklin Gateway, the organization said Wednesday.

The first phase of the project, which cost $220,000, began in 2016 when the CID beautified the I-75 exit ramps at Delk Road and South Marietta Parkway. Gateway Marietta CID Executive Director Caroline Whaley said the second phase will cost about $120,000 to implement.

A Community Improvement District is made up of commercial property owners within district boundaries who tax themselves to pay for public infrastructure projects. The Gateway Marietta CID works to improve the area through public safety, landscaping, and infrastructure improvements.

J. Mark Lawson, chairman of Gateway Marietta CID, said the project will continue the CID’s efforts to establish the area as “an attractive area to live, work and play.”
