Two Gwinnett improvement districts to expand

June 9, 2016

Two community improvement districts in Gwinnett County will expand under plans approved by the Board of Commissioners Tuesday.

Six commercial properties will join the Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District along Pleasant Hill Road near Duluth. The Lilburn Community Improvement District along Lawrenceville Highway will add 107 properties.

The districts are formed by commercial property owners who agree to pay an extra property tax to pay for roads, sidewalks and other improvements. More properties mean more money for improvements.

The Gwinnett Place district has focused on transportation and mobility projects and security in the Gwinnett Place Mall area. Among other things, the Lilburn district is trying to convert Lawrenceville Highway into a boulevard-style streetscape with underground utilities, more attractive lighting and more trees.
