Truck will bring produce to food deserts in DeKalb

DeKalb County's government is starting up a food truck that will carry fresh produce to people who live in areas without access to healthy and affordable food options.

The food truck will be funded with a three-year, $199,716 grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to the DeKalb Board of Health.

Interim DeKalb CEO Lee May said lack of access to healthy foods contributes to a poor diet and can lead to heart disease, which accounts for 22 percent of deaths in the county.

Details about the truck’s launch and areas it will serve will be announced in coming weeks.
