There's a rat problem in the building where DeKalb County residents can pay their water bills.

Traps have been set inside and outside the DeKalb Utility Customer Operations Center near Decatur along Lawrenceville Highway, according to Channel 2 Action News. One rat has been caught so far.

The county government is renting the property from Cherians Real Estate LLC, which also provides space nearby for workforce development functions.

“We know there’s some evidence of a pest control problem,” said DeKalb spokesman Burke Brennan. “We’re working with the landlord to eradicate the problem.”

Two years ago, the county had a separate vermin problem in a downtown Decatur building that housed water billing and account services employees.
