DeKalb County has been chosen as a pilot site for the Georgia Prisoner Reentry Initiative, which aims to help inmates make a successful return to society after serving their time.

The reentry initiative is an effort by the Governor’s Office of Transition, Support and Reentry to improve public safety.

The DeKalb Reentry and Recidivism Task Force, created by Interim DeKalb CEO Lee May last year, is working in collaboration with the state to provide services for those going in and out of jails and prisons.

“The governor’s reforms will fit well within the framework of our reentry and recidivism strategies here in DeKalb,” May said.

Details of the effort will be announced to DeKalb agencies, advocates and non-profits next week.
