Fulton County residents may get a shock when they get their property tax assessment notices this week.

The county started mailing the notices Friday. Fulton officials say many owners will see a substantial increase in the tax values of their homes because of a brisk real estate market. The values help determine property tax bills that will be mailed later this year. Generally, the higher a property’s value, the higher the tax bill.

If owners don't believe the value represents what their property would sell for on the open market, they must appeal by July 20. They can appeal the value at www.fultonassessor.org.
