The hotel chain Hilton Worldwide has chosen Henry County to unveil a new concept, mid-priced hotel aimed at younger travelers.

Officials broke ground in McDonough this week for Tru by Hilton. The four-story, 98-room hotel is the chain's first Tru property nationally and is designed with millennials in mind, Hilton officials said in a news release. The hotel will be located at 251 Avalon Court and is expected to be finished by the summer of 2017.

Tuesday’s groundbreaking featured a 3-D chalk painting of the hotel’s exterior and guest rooms. Key features of the hotel are designed to appeal to young people. Features include mobile check-in and The Hive - or first-floor lobby - will have four distinct zones for lounging, working, eating and playing. The Play Zone will have table games and large screen TVs and a tiered, stadium-style seating, according to a Hilton news release.

A Command Center or re-envisioned front desk will have a social media wall and round-the-clock market and snack center. There’s also a complimentary build-your-own breakfast bar. Guest rooms will have platform beds and access to power everywhere. Room rates will run between $90 and $100. Attempts to reach Hilton was unsuccessful Thursday afternoon.

The hotel is just the latest in a string of economic development announcements made in Henry in the last month.

An Alabama developer plans to build a $300 million retail and residential development complex in the heart of Henry County that is expected to fill a void of upscale amenities in the county and much of the southside. The Jodeco Atlanta South project will include retail, a food hall, homes, hotels, an amphitheatre, a wetland preserve and outdoor fitness and recreation space. The development will be just off I-75.

Hilton has 189 deals for Tru hotels so far. The McDonough site is owned by McDonough Hotel Partners LLC and will be managed by .
