Gwinnett commissioners seek re-election

Feb 23, 2016

Two Gwinnett County commissioners have announced they plan to seek re-election, while a third has not decided.

Chairman Charlotte Nash recently announced she will seek a second full-term on the commission. She was elected chairman in a special election in 2011 and re-elected to a full term in 2012.

“I want Gwinnett to be a place of opportunity for young and old alike, but without a strong community and economy, opportunity is just an empty promise,” Nash said in announcing her re-election bid. “I want Gwinnett’s government to be good enough to keep that promise.”

Nash, a Republican, may face a challenge from Democrat Jack Snyder, who recently announced he will run for the job.

District Commissioner Jace Brooks of Suwanee also announced he will seek re-election. He was first elected in 2012.

“I am proud of my record of doing what I promised I would do – champion conservative solutions to Gwinnett’s serious challenges,” Brooks said in announcing his campaign. “Thanks to these efforts, Gwinnett is on the rise again with a growing economy, low taxes, increased funding for public safety, reforms to restore the public’s trust and meaningful investments to improve mobility.”

District 3 Commissioner Tommy Hunter also is up for re-election but has not announced whether he will seek the office again.

The official filing period for candidates is March 7-11.
