DeKalb County is honoring the 41 officers who have been killed in the line of duty since the county police department was founded 100 years ago.

The lives lost and the department’s anniversary were marked during a ceremony Wednesday in Decatur Square.

A bell tolled as the name of each fallen officer was called, and the DeKalb Police Department Honor Guard laid a wreath at a memorial. The event closed with a 21-gun salute and a flyover.

Interim DeKalb CEO Lee May, Chief James Conroy and Public Safety Director Cedric Alexander addressed officers and their families during the ceremony.
