Early voting is underway for July 14 elections to represent DeKalb County on the county commission and in the Georgia House of Representatives.
The race to represent southeast DeKalb is a runoff between Mereda Davis Johnson, an attorney and the wife of U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson, and George Turner, a retired MARTA manager and a leader of several community groups.
The election to represent Brookhaven in the state House is between four attorneys: Taylor Bennett, a Democrat and a former Georgia Tech quarterback; Catherine Bernard, a Republican who opposed Brookhaven's redevelopment powers referendum; Loren Collins, a Republican and a previous write-in candidate for Congress; and J. Max Davis, a Republican and the former mayor of Brookhaven.
Residents who live in DeKalb District 5 or House District 80 may cast early ballots until July 10 at the DeKalb County Voter Registration & Elections Office at 4380 Memorial Drive, Suite 300, in Decatur.
Early voting is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. The office will be closed Friday in observance of Independence Day.
