The DeKalb-Peachtree Airport has a new interim director, Mario Evans, who is replacing former Airport Director Mike Van Wie upon his retirement.
Evans most recently served as the airport’s assistant director since 2010, and he previously was the airport’s noise and environmental specialist.
DeKalb-Peachtree Airport is the second-busiest airport in Georgia, averaging about 228,000 take-offs and landings per year with about 590 aircraft based there, according to DeKalb County.
Evans, who took over the director’s job this month, is responsible for daily operations, airport security, construction administration and facilities maintenance. The county will conduct a search for a permanent airport director.
“Mario is an outstanding people person,” said Wie, who had worked at the airport since 2002. “Mario can talk to anybody about any subject matter, no matter how controversial, and everybody comes away happy. That’s a talent, especially where airports are concerned.”
