DeKalb County's government is going after hotels that didn't pay their water bills for months or even years, contributing to more than $71 million in past-due bills across the county.

Three hotels in south DeKalb faced water disconnection notices from the county unless they paid up more than $400,000 owed for water service.

Two of those hotels, A2B Budget Hotel and Affordable Hotel, paid up Friday so they could keep their doors open.

But Economy Inn on Wesley Chapel Road still owes $259,848.

DeKalb officials say the bill collection effort is a step toward recovering millions more that has built up over the last decade.
