About 35 people protested several recent shootings by DeKalb County police Tuesday and called for the government to take corrective action.

Speaking to the DeKalb Board of Commissioners, they said the police department has been involved in too many questionable shootings, including four high-profile incidents since last December.

One of those killed was Kevin Davis, who was shot after he called 911 for help because a man had stabbed his girlfriend.

“I’m just asking that some light be shed on these cases,” said Davis’ sister, Delisa Davis. “There was obviously a miscommunication between dispatch and the police officers that arrived on the scene. I miss my brother and want something to be done about this.”

Protesters also called for justice in the killing of Anthony Hill, an unarmed mentally ill veteran who ran at an officer, and in the shooting of a man last week by police who entered the wrong home when responding to a burglary call.

Several said the officers involved should be fired, and they also said Public Safety Director Cedric Alexander should step down. DeKalb spokesman Burke Brennan said there are no plans to terminate Alexander.

“We have to make sure that as our police officers are doing the job, they have the responsibility to keep the community safe and protect all lives as well,” said Interim DeKalb CEO Lee May. “We need to have that dialogue both privately and publicly … We need to listen.”

The shootings are under investigation.
