Westminster Schools students will get Thursday off and utilize digital learning Friday, preparation to make sure the technology is sufficient should coronavirus fears increase and the campus closes altogether, officials said Wednesday.

An elite private school in Buckhead, Westminster Schools currently enrolls students in grades kindergarten through 12.

Officials said classes are cancelled Thursday. Staff will work on digital learning strategies and preparation to take learning completely online Friday.

Several metro Atlanta school districts already have lost days due to COVID-19, the official name for the current coronavirus that affects more than 100,000 people in different parts of the world. Fulton County Schools closed Tuesday and Wednesday after a teacher tested positive for the virus. Valdosta City Schools also shut its doors Wednesday after an employee's indirect contact with the virus.
