A University of West Georgia faculty member has self-reported having COVID-19, school officials said.

The unidentified faculty member works as a faculty member in the College of Education and was last on campus March 11, the university said in a message Tuesday evening to students, staff and faculty. The university had no additional information about the faculty member’s condition Wednesday morning.

“The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) will follow its protocol in contacting people with whom this individual has been in contact as appropriate,” the university said in its message.

There were 197 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and one death from the virus in Georgia as of noon Wednesday, state officials said. Two Emory University undergraduate students are among the cases.
