A leader with the U.S. Department of Agriculture is visiting a Fulton County school to promote healthy eating with students.

Under Secretary Kevin W. Concannon of the USDA is visiting Lake Forest Elementary School in Sandy Springs on Tuesday, a school that participates in the USDA’s Community Eligibility Provision. The program provides free breakfast and lunch meals to all students enrolled.

Concannon was nominated by President Obama and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in July 2009 to serve as Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services in the USDA. That division has authority for Food and Nutrition Service as well as responsibilities for promoting a healthful diet.

Working in partnership with state and local organizations, Food and Nutrition Service oversees child nutrition programs including National School Lunch, School Breakfast and Summer Food Service Programs, among other education programs.
