More than 20 Georgia college campuses closing in preparation of Hurricane Michael

Gov. Nathan Deal has announced a State of Emergency for portions of Georgia ahead of Hurricane Michael's impact on the state.

More than 20 Georgia college and university campuses are closing and another one is extending its fall break due to potential damage from Hurricane Michael.

The University of Georgia announced late Wednesday it will delay opening its Athens campus until 10 a.m. Thursday. Classes will begin at 11 a.m.

Here’s the list of closures as of 7 p.m. Wednesday:

Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College announced campus closures starting 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Classes are scheduled to resume on Wed., Oct. 17. The college previously scheduled fall break for Oct. 15 and Oct. 16.

Albany State University closed its East and West campuses and satellite campuses in Cairo and Cordele at noon Tuesday. Campuses are set to reopen on Friday.

Albany Technical College closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Augusta Technical College closed at 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

Central Georgia Technical College closed at 12 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

Coastal Pines Technical College closed Wednesday and Thursday.

College of Coastal Georgia cancelled classes Wednesday and Thursday.

Fort Valley State University will close at noon Wednesday and reopen Friday.

Georgia College has extended its fall break to Oct. 15.

Georgia Southern University has cancelled classes Wednesday and Thursday.

Georgia Southwestern State University has cancelled classes Wednesday and Thursday.

Mercer University has rescheduled traditional undergraduate classes Wednesday at its Macon campus to Sat., Dec. 8.

Middle Georgia State University will be closed Thursday.

Oconee Fall Line Technical College will close at noon Wednesday and all day Thursday.

Ogeechee Technical College will close Wednesday and Thursday.

Saint Leo University’s education centers in Duluth, Marietta and Morrow will close at 2 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday.

Savannah State University closed campus Wednesday and Thursday.

South Georgia State College is scheduled to close is Douglas and Waycross campuses Wednesday and Thursday.

South Georgia Technical College will close Wednesday and Thursday.

Southern Crescent Technical College will be closed Thursday.

Southern Regional Technical College will close Wednesday and Thursday.

Southeastern Technical College will close Wednesday and Thursday.

Valdosta State University is also planning to close Wednesday and Thursday.

Wiregrass Georgia Technical College will close Tuesday evening, Wednesday and Thursday.

Gov. Nathan Deal has issued a state of emergency for more than 100 South and Middle Georgia counties ahead of the storm, which made landfall along the Florida Panhandle Wednesday afternoon.

Southeastern Technical College and Central Georgia Technical College are using some of its tractor-trailers to move cots to locations where they made be needed, said Mark D’Alessio, a spokesman for the Technical College System of Georgia.
