Some 800 educators plan to attend a free seminar aimed at training them in how to protect themselves and students if an armed intruder invades their school.

The seminar administered by the Marietta Police Department will include tips on how to secure classrooms to deny access to a gunman, what items a teacher can use to protect themselves and what to do when law enforcement arrives. The seminar is scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Marietta High School.

Several Georgia law enforcement agencies have held similar training sessions in recent months in the wake of mass shootings in places such as Paris and San Bernardino, Calif.

All teachers ranging from daycare to universities are invited and allowed to bring one guest. All attendees must show school identification upon arrival.

As of this week, police officials say over 790 educators and others have reported they plan to attend the event, which is near capacity at 800.
