Coan Middle School and King Middle School in eastern Atlanta could be combined to create a larger campus with additional staffing and programs, according to a preliminary proposal from Atlanta Superintendent Erroll Davis.

Each school is less than half filled, and merging the two could create opportunities for stronger academic pathways, job-based learning, more resources, and advanced and remedial learning support, Davis wrote.

Davis plans to make his recommendation to the school board April 14, and then students could be located on Coan’s campus for one or two years while King receives a $10 million to $20 million renovation.
