Sequoyah High School Tome Student Literacy Society students are state champions. The chapter, which is in its second year, won six first-place medals and several other awards including second place for Chapter of the Year at the TomeCon statewide competition at the University of North Georgia Gainesville. Tome is a national organization to promote "multiple literacies" among fourth- to 12th-grade students across the United States. Under the leadership of Sequoyah media specialist Elease Franchini, the chapter's students work on projects and papers to submit for competition all year on books read from a list of 20 books called the "It List." Some competitions, such as Reading Bowl and Book Talk, were held during TomeCon, with other projects submitted digitally in advance.
