Retired general who led Katrina response to talk about Hurricane Maria recovery at Kennesaw State
Retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré, best known for his efforts to speed up the recovery after Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast in 2005, will speak Wednesday at Kennesaw State University about the Trump administration’s response to Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Honoré has said the response to the destruction is too slow. Puerto Rico is operating on about 20 percent of the power it needs to supply the island a month after the hurricane, according to some news accounts.
Honoré will be speaking from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Burris Building on KSU’s Kennesaw campus.
Honoré was invited by students in KSU’s Department of First-Year and Transition Studies, university officials said. His book, “Leadership and Preparedness in the New Normal – 21st Century,” is one of their textbooks.
Honoré has scheduled a book signing for his work after his remarks.
