The principal of Atlanta’s Grady High School is leaving after just two years to work in the Clayton County school district.
The Clayton County school board is scheduled to approve Tim Guiney’s hiring into a “promotion position” on Monday, Atlanta Public Schools officials announced this week.
Guiney has previously worked as a teacher and administrator in Clayton.
At Grady, he replaced long-time principal Vincent Murray, who had served as Grady’s principal for more than 20 years.
“During his tenure, Mr. Guiney has taken Grady to new levels with increased student performance and greater parental and community engagement,” Atlanta associate superintendent Dan Sims wrote in a letter to parents.
Inman Middle School principal Betsy Bockman will serve as Grady’s interim principal for the rest of this school year, Sims wrote. Inman assistant principal Emily Boatright will serve as Inman’s interim principal.
The search for permanent principals for both schools will start in the spring.
