Some parents are speaking out against a proposal moving a popular north DeKalb County magnet program to Southwest DeKalb High School.

District officials said plans to relocate the Chamblee magnet programs were suggested to alleviate crowding.

With most of its students residing in the district along the I-285 corridor from Dunwoody to Tucker, some parents said the drive farther south would be too much of an inconvenience.

One school board member said the students would not move with the program. Another said the dust-up was further proof of the district’s racial divide when it comes to educating students.
