A former Fulton County principal of the year will take over as principal of  Riverwood International Charter School.

The Fulton County school board on Tuesday approved Kindra Smith as the new principal, according to a letter posted on Riverwood's website. She will start July 22.

She has previously worked as principal of Elkins Pointe Middle School. While leading  Roswell North Elementary in 2014, Smith was named the district's Principal of the Year, according to a biography posted on a district website.

Smith attended University of North Alabama on a basketball scholarship and received a master’s degree from

Kennesaw State University. She also holds a specialist degree from the University of West Georgia in educational leadership.

Smith will be at the school to meet with community members from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on July 29 and Aug. 2.
