A Redan Middle School visual arts teacher is being honored as an outstanding club sponsor.
Lydia Atubeh will receive the 2020 Outstanding National Junior Art Honor Society Sponsor award, which is presented to the member who works with an outstanding local chapter, at the National Junior Art Honor Society National Convention, held March 26 to 28 in Minneapolis.
District officials said Atubeh has been a teacher at Redan Middle School and sponsor of the local chapter for five years. She told the school district she wanted to help students develop useful skills that would help them after graduation.
“They’ll need to be self-starters, they’ll need to be able to advocate from themselves, speak properly and lead,” she said. “My goal is to help them to develop the skills they need to actually work and succeed in the real world once they graduate.”
