Rudy Horne, a Morehouse College associate math professor who worked as a consultant on the hit Oscar-nominated film “Hidden Figures,” has died, the college announced Wednesday.

Horne began teaching at Morehouse in 2010.  He previously taught at Florida State University, Morehouse officials said.

Horne’s job in the film was to make sure that all mathematical problems used in the film, a story about three African-American women who helped NASA during the early years of the space program, were accurate and historically relevant. His work on the film made Horne a “rock star” of math in higher education circles.

Horne died Tuesday, a Morehouse spokeswoman said. The cause of Horne’s death was not immediately known.
