William Bynum Jr. is leaving his position as vice president for enrollment management and student services at Morehouse College to become the next president of Mississippi Valley State University.

MVSU announced Bynum’s hiring on Tuesday, lauding his track record of increasing enrollment while improving student retention and graduation rates.

Bynum has 25 years of higher education experience, including stints at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, Davidson College in North Carolina and Clark Atlanta.

“Dr. Bynum has extensive experience in higher education,” said Shane Hooper, an MVSU Board of Trustees member who led the university’s search committee. “He understand the most pressing issues in higher education today and has the knowledge and leadership skills necessary to address them.”
