Middle school staff’s quick action helped save boy’s life

The Cherokee County School Board recently recognized Creekland Middle School nurse Chrissa Hofstetter and principal Deborah Wiseman, school district operations director Debra Murdock and other staff for their roles in saving the life of sixth-grader Caden Cherry, who suffered cardiac arrest during a physical education class on Sept. 29. Hofstetter, Wiseman and Murdock, who was on campus for another reason, immediately administered CPR and use of a defibrillator. Their actions resuscitated and stabilized Caden so he could be taken to the hospital. Caden since has been released from the hospital, and attended the board meeting where his rescuers were recognized.
