First Lady Michelle Obama and U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan are in town today to launch the administration’s fifth annual back-to-school bus tour.
In the morning, Duncan will participate in a roundtable discussion with Spelman College students on teacher recruitment.
In the afternoon, Obama will tour a college fair at Booker T. Washington High School and then, along with Duncan, deliver remarks at a rally to promote her Reach Higher initiative, which emphasizes the importance of completing some form of higher education.
After the school visit, Obama will participate in a benefit for the Michelle Nunn campaign and in a voter registration rally.
From Atlanta, Duncan will travel by bus to Carrollton, Ga., for an event recognizing a program that places at-risk Carroll County students in jobs with wire and cable manufacturer Southwire.
On Tuesday, Duncan will travel to Birmingham and Huntsville , Ala. and Chattanooga, Tenn. He will conclude the tour the following day in Tennessee with events in Nashville and Memphis.
