Metro Atlanta area educators to participate in STEM training event

High school students attend a camp in science, technology, math and engineering courses at Georgia Tech. As Georgia’s Hispanic population increases, many educators are trying to get more of those students in science, technology, math and engineering courses. Georgia Tech is aggressively recruiting Hispanic students. The percentage of Hispanic students there has nearly doubled, from 3.5 percent in 2013, to an expected 6.5 percent in 2014. Gwinnett County schools is working with Tech on a two-week summer STEM camp.

The Metropolitan Regional Educational Service Agency and Discovery Education are partnering to offer metro Atlanta area educators training and tips for teaching science, engineering and other related topics.

During this no-cost professional development event Friday at Marietta High School in Cobb County, educators will explore best practices for implementing innovative science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curricula that prepare students to be problem solvers and lifelong learners.

Over 130 educators from districts across the state — including Marietta, Atlanta, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton, Rockdale – are expected to attend.
