A team of students in the automotive and collision class at Maxwell High School of Technology has won the 2015 Quaker State Best in Class Challenge competition in car restoration.

Five auto-shop teams from around the U.S. competed in restoring, tuning, and customizing a pre-owned car (valued at approximately $3,000) into a showroom-ready, creative representation of their school.

As Grand Prize winners, the Maxwell Navigators were awarded a $2,000 AutoZone gift card along with a custom advertorial in the February 2016 issue of Popular Mechanics magazine. The students also have been invited to participate in a Mecum Auctions’ classic and collector car auction in Austin, Texas, on Dec. 11, and will have an opportunity to auction their customized vehicle to the highest bidders with proceeds going to Maxwell High.

“The students spent countless hours working on the car during class and after school. For students that have only been in the automotive and collision class for one semester to be able to pull off a custom car build that wins best in the nation speaks volumes about their determination and hard work,” said Max Chavez, auto shop team leader for Maxwell High School of Technology.
