The Georgia Lottery Corp. ended fiscal year 2015 on June 30 with profits of $980 million, which goes to education uses such as HOPE scholarships and pre-kindergarten programs.
The profits exceed last year’s by more than $35.4 million, the Lottery Corp. says.
“We are pleased to have raised more dollars for education than in any previous year,” said Georgia Lottery President and CEO Debbie D. Alford. “This would not have been possible without the support of our players, retailers, business partners and employees across the state.”
Since its first year, the lottery has paid more than $16.5 billion to Georgia educational programs. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE grants, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program.
