Andre Riley began working for the DeKalb County School District as director of strategic communications this month after just over two years with Dallas (Texas) Independent School District.

Before Dallas, he worked in communications for Kansas City Public Schools, DeKalb Superintendent Steve Green’s previous employer.

District officials did not respond to a request for information on Riley, including why he was hired, his salary and other pertinent details. Riley made $89,000 in Dallas. In the DeKalb district, directors typically earn between $85,000 and $110,000.

Issues arose earlier this year after top administrative positions were filled with candidates from Kansas City or others suggested by district staff, though a search firm made more than $100,000 to find candidates.

Green said at the time that while the search firm was paid for specific jobs, he could point to another district position filled with a candidate the search firm found.
