In an address during Jackson's Awards Day ceremony for underclassmen, Jackson spoke of the Rev. Martin Luther King and of former Atlanta mayor Maynard Jackson, Jackson principal Stephanie Johnson wrote in a Facebook post.

“Stop the violence. Save the children. Keep hope alive,” Jackson told students.
