Atlanta students interested in attending a new college and career academy can find out more at a meeting this week.

Atlanta Public Schools plans to open the Atlanta College & Career Academy at the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

The academy will offer job training in aviation, carpentry, criminal investigation, culinary arts, cybersecurity, dental science, early childhood education, graphic design and other career fields.

The district will hold an informational meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Atlanta Technical College Auditorium, 1560 Metropolitan Parkway SW.

Officials said up to 1,000 students will be served by the new school, where they will attend classes during a morning or afternoon session while continuing to take courses at their home high school.

The school board approved the program nearly a year ago. The district has been working to develop programming and renovate the Parks Middle School building to house the academy.
