Taffeta Connery, principal at Gwinnett County’s Sugar Hill Elementary School has been tapped as the new leader of Simpson Elementary.

At its regular monthly meeting on Nov. 21, the Gwinnett County Board of Education announced the appointment. Connery will transfer to her new position in January with the retirement of Simpson’s current principal Bron Gayna Schmit.

Connery joined Gwinnett County Schools in 2013 as assistant principal at Corley Elementary School. She went on to lead Sugar Hill Elementary in 2016.

She has worked as an educator in DeKalb County schools and began her teaching career in Florida.

Connery is a graduate of Gwinnett County Public Schools’ Quality-Plus Leader Academy, Aspiring Principal Program.
