Gwinnett school raising money for expansion

April 29, 2015

A nonprofit school for special-needs students has embarked on a $4.2 million fundraising campaign, saying too many of its students are taking classes in trailers.

The Special Needs School of Gwinnett has scheduled a golf tournament May 4 at Chateau Elan to raise money to build a new building for the school. The school is using two small buildings and two trailers for classrooms. The school’s fundraising committee hopes the expansion will help it serve more students. It has a waiting list of students who want to enroll.

The school, in Lawrenceville, offers classes for toddlers through the 12th grade. It has about 60 students and a maximum staff-to-student ratio of 5 to 1.
