Gwinnett school finance chief to retire

Nov 25, 2015

Gwinnett County school officials are looking for a new chief financial officer after the current officeholder, Rick Cost, announced plans to retire in December.

Cost has been in his current position for nine years. Earlier this month, the Georgia Association of School Business Officials named Cost its 2015 Outstanding School Business Official.

Cost’s duties include helping put together Gwinnett’s annual budget, currently $1.86 billion, managing its bond programs, directing employee payroll and managing its Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax program, which is used to fund school construction, renovations and other technological improvements. The school district has posted a listing for the position on its website.

Cost first worked in Gwinnett from 1990 to 2000. He became the DeKalb school district’s chief financial officer before returning to Gwinnett in 2006.
