Lovin Elementary School held a parade Friday morning, one of several Veterans Day celebrations held at various Gwinnett County public schools and across metro Atlanta.
More than 50 military veterans who have children, gradnchildren or relatives who attended the school were treated to a breakfast that included red, white and blue yogurt. Students sang patriotic hymns and lined the hallways, waving American flags and cheering the veterans during the parade around the school.
Kedisha Samuels, dressed in her Army uniform, told the audience that the event was important to her because she was deployed during past celebrations and couldn’t attend. Her son, Dontae, 8, is a third-grader at the school.
“I feel honored to be invited to one of these events,” she said.
Air Force veteran Paul Davidson, whose wife, Grace, teaches at Lovin and his five children who attend the school, said the celebration was special to him.
“It’s good to see that they wanted to honor us and let the children see what a special sacrifice that was made,” said Davidson.
