Gwinnett County school board voted late Thursday to appoint a new principal at Rosebud Elementary School, after the prior principal resigned a week before the current school year began.

The new principal, Monica Ball, has been teaching in Gwinnett for two decades. She began her career at Cedar Hill Elementary School in 1997. Ball went to teach at Winn Holt Elementary in 2004 and has been an assistant principal there since 2009.

Tarsha Chambers resigned as principal of Rosebud Elementary on Aug. 1. Chambers cited plans to seek other opportunities as the reason for her resignation, school district spokeswoman Sloan Roach said.

The school has about 1,100 students.
