During its monthly meeting in March, the Gwinnett County Board of Education approved the appointment of Tamara Perkins as principal of Simonton Elementary School.

Currently, Perkins is principal of Parsons Elementary. She will fill the vacancy created when Clifton Alexander, Simonton’s principal since January of 2013, was promoted to an assistant superintendent for elementary schools.

Perkins first came to Gwinnett County Public Schools in 2000 as a third grade teacher at Lawrenceville Elementary. Her first administrative position was in 2012 when she was named assistant principal at Berkeley Lake Elementary.

Perkins is a graduate of Gwinnett County Public Schools’ Quality-Plus Leader Academy, Aspiring Principal Program (Cohort 9).

She will assume her new role once her replacement at Parsons Elementary has been named.
