Forty-seven Georgia school districts and one state school will be awarded about $8.2 million through a collaborative funding effort that seeks to provide high speed broadband access required for blended learning, Gov. Nathan Deal’s office said today.
Connections for Classrooms grants are distributed in three rounds and funded through an effort between the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement, the Georgia Department of Education and the OneGeorgia Authority. The funds will enable the 48 entities to receive another $16.8 million in federal funds toward classroom network infrastructure.
“Georgia students gain a distinct advantage by learning skills applicable to rapidly growing sectors of the economy,” Deal said in the release. “I charged the Digital Learning Task Force with developing a strategy to improve student achievement through digital learning implementation across the state. Today, our schools are more equipped than ever to properly prepare students to join a high-tech workforce.”
Across three granting rounds, Connections for Classrooms provided more than $70 million in grants to 157 local education authorities to help them achieve personalized learning for their students.
