Glen Cannon, the president of Gwinnett Technical College, has been tapped as interim president of Georgia Piedmont Technical College, officials announced Thursday.

Cannon replaces Jabari Simama, who was hired in September 2012 and leaves office, effective Friday. Cannon starts Monday.

The Technical College System of Georgia last month launched an ongoing review of Georgia Piedmont Tech's finances after federal and state officials found problems with the college's fiscal management.

Georgia Piedmont Tech’s main campus is in central DeKalb County. It has campuses in Morgan, Newton and Rockdale counties.

The Technical College System of Georgia is conducting a search for a permanent president of the college.
