Fulton County schools had one of the highest rates of disorderly conduct and fights among students in the 2014-15 school year in metro Atlanta, according to Georgia Department of Education.

There were 7,443 reported incidents that resulted in disciplinary action in Fulton, among the highest in metro Atlanta districts. Cobb schools had the most with 19,010.

The state’s definition of disorderly conduct is “any act that substantially disrupts the orderly conduct of a school function, substantially disrupts the orderly learning environment, or poses a threat to the health, safety, and/or welfare of students, staff, or others”

Fighting is defined as “mutual participation in a fight involving physical violence where there is no one main offender and no major injury. This does not include verbal confrontations, tussles, or other minor confrontations.”

Disorderly conduct and fighting are among a list of other disciplinary incidents in schools in metro Atlanta compiled in a searchable database by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as part of a recent report on school security.
